JOB TITLE: Musical Theatre Teaching Artist

DEPARTMENT: Education

FLSA STATUS: Part-Time, Exempt, Hourly

JOB SUMMARY:

Do you have a background in theatre and love working with children?

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Musical Theatre Teaching Artist to lead engaging, age appropriate classes, for elementary and middle school students. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with young performers and skilled in integrating acting, singing, and movement into fun, educational, and confidence-building experiences. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Effectively and safely lead a high-energy classroom environment.

  • Direct, choreograph, and block short productions leading to a final performance at our partner school sites.

  • Create lesson plans that integrate acting, vocal technique, and basic movement choreography into existing curriculum.

  • Teach foundational theatre skills such as character development, storytelling, ensemble work, stage presence and vocal projection.

  • Collaborate with Technical Theatre Teaching Artist as needed.

  • Regularly communicate with a team of assistant directors, costumers, producers, supervisors, and more.

  • Create ample opportunity for a diverse group of students to find success in their classroom roles.

  • Foster a learning environment that encourages creativity and confidence.

  • Teaching Artists are required to participate in 4 information booths/events per year.

QUALIFICATIONS:​​

  • Experience in the dramatic or music arts

  • 1+ year of experience teaching musical theatre, theatre, voice, dance, or a related arts discipline.

  • Strong knowledge of musical theatre fundamentals

  • Ability to teach multiple disciplines (acting, singing, and movement) at a foundational level

  • High energy, patience and a passion for arts education

  • Strong classroom management and communication skills

  • Experience working with elementary and secondary-level children

  • Organizational excellence

  • Availability in afternoons and evenings

  • Bachelors or Associates Degree (preferred)

  • Clearance of background check required

PAY RANGE: $25 - $30 per hour

EXPECTED HOURS: No more than 20 hours per week
